Lake View Park II
This project, intended as a medium-term stay for solo travelers and couples, had a very small footprint as well as facing directly out to a brick wall. We knew we would have to put special care into making the inside feel as cozy as possible. The dark walls and black ceiling were inspired by my den at home, which is also a small space, and somewhere I love spending time.
The Before
Unlike the downstairs, this upstairs apartment had less structural damage, but the bathrooms were beyond saving. While the finishes were worn and outdated, the original footprint provided a solid base to build upon.
Planning the Transformation
Our favourite part of this unit was the potential of the old library. We envisioned it as a lounge, keeping the built-in bookcases to anchor the space with character. To preserve its charm, we also salvaged the original upper cabinets and hardware, blending history with a refreshed purpose.
The Outcome
The upstairs unit was transformed into a space full of character and flow. The old library became a bold lounge with built-ins and velvet seating, while the dining, kitchen, and living areas now feel bright, modern, and cohesive. A refined yet welcoming retreat where every room has purpose and style.
